The Mediterranean Diet Foundation presented the MedDiet Project during the second edition of the SmartFruit Congress, forum in which 780 professionals participated
A project whose mission is to promote and communicate nutritious, healthy and cultural patterns of the Mediterranean Diet internationally.
The Mediterranean Diet Foundation is the Spanish partner of this project in which six participating countries of the Euro-Mediterranean area. Diana Julia, responsible for international projects of the Foundation, presented to the fruit sector and a significant number of international importers synergies created by the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean area to promote a lifestyle and food based on seasonal produce in proximity, quality, education and consumer education…etc.
All training workshops being conducted in different schools of the Mediterranean coast were presented as well as the Mediterranean Diet label project certifying restaurants, which is currently underway, under the MedDiet project.
During the SmartFruit congress the Mediterranean Diet Foundation attended numerous accessions and signatures of support for the MedDiet project, since the values that it disseminates are a reference and a model to follow.
Fruit is a fundamental part of the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid, as explained by Dr. Ramon Estruch, Scientific President of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation and driver of the Predimed study. Dr. Estruch explained the benefits that eating fruit daily provides the human organism.
The Mediterranean Diet Foundation counted with the collaboration of ASCAME (Association of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce) in organizing the Capitalization Event for the MedDiet European Project.
This initiative has the support of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Environment of the Generalitat of Catalonia and Prodeca, organizers of the SmartFruit IPM International Congress.
The conference organizers were pleased with this second edition that has allowed the B2B meetings between 22 producers and exporters of fruit of Catalonia (representing 80% of the fruit market) and 54 importers and distributors in 18 countries.
The project “MedDiet – Mediterranean Diet and Enhancement of Traditional Foodstuff” is implemented under the ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme (www.enpicbcmed.eu). Its total budget is 4.996.972 € and it is financed, for an amount of 4.497.275 € by the European Union through the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument. The ENPI CBC Med Programme aims at reinforcing cooperation between the European Union and partner countries regions placed along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea
