Visit to a Lebanese winery (12/10/2013)

MedDiet events have started!!!

Our first “Risk of Losing Mediterranean Healthy Eating Habits” awareness campaign was launched with the collaboration of Jdeideh, Bouchrieh and Sed Municipalities on the 12 of October, 2013.

To increase the awareness of the Mediterranean Diet benefits a visit to a Lebanese winery was paid by Jdeideh, Bouchrieh and Sed residents. Where a documentary was presented to the visitors introducing Lebanon's oldest, largest and most visited winery, attracting around 40,000 guests per year. The presentation included wine yards, harvesting and collecting different kind of grapes, vivifications, production of wine (starting with selection of the grapes and ending with bottling), benefits of different wines, wine vintage, storage of wine and wine tasting. Besides that, a tour to the winery and its historical caves was followed.

More importantly, an introduction and explanation of the MedDiet benefits, its characteristics and its importance in our lives were explained to the audience.
Even more; a clarification of the wine benefits was also introduced.  Red wine, in moderation, has long been thought of as heart healthy. Antioxidants found in red wine help prevent heart disease by increasing levels of "good" cholesterol and protecting against artery damage, and certainly prevent blood clots.

While the news about red wine might sound great if you enjoy a glass of red wine every day, doctors are wary of encouraging anyone to start drinking alcohol. That's because too much alcohol can have many harmful effects on your body. At this event, the objective of MedDiet project was completed in this visit, where guests had the chance to appreciate their traditional Mediterranean Lebanese habitual breakfast, lunch and wine that were served in this event. And more over, kids had the chance to play in Zahleh’s public park.
